Kathleen Barratt, Founder

Kathleen Barratt grew up in Austin, Texas, where she cultivated an appreciation of new ideas and the synergies created when diverse cultures come together. In 1987, Kathleen left Austin to study with Native American elders in Texas, New Mexico, and New York. Her adventures led her to Virginia Beach where she became a dedicated student of the Edgar Cayce Readings on meditation among other systems of personal and spiritual development.

In the early 1980s, Kathleen developed an interest in breathwork as a dynamic tool for personal healing and transformation. She trained in popular breathwork methods that utilize hyperventilation and extreme physical catharsis. Recognizing the drama and rigors of hyperventilation, however, she began to create a subtler approach to breathwork — one based on the techniques of "Bioenergy," a subtle energy healing art developed by Mietek & Margaret Wirkus. Kathleen has over 20 years professional experience in facilitating and teaching Breathwork and Bioenergy, receiving her Master's Certificate in Bioenergy in 2009.

Kathleen established the Barratt Breathworks Institute in 1994, offering both personal and professional trainings in the Barratt Breathworks Approach. Today, the Barratt Breathworks Institute synthesizes studies in Breathwork, Meditation, and Bioenergy, resulting in a professional methodology that transcends time, culture, and tradition.
