The Field of Breathwork

Breathwork has existed for centuries as a mindfulness practice, but that does not mean that it is static or that it is not evolving. In fact, since roughly the early 1990s, breathwork has been enjoying a renaissance in the West, taking its place alongside cranial sacral therapy, acupuncture and other proven forms of body/mind medicine. Because of this, breathwork has attracted the attention of researchers in conventional medicine, psychology, and physiology. This has resulted in a growing body of knowledge of the breath’s dynamic influence on physical health and well being. An increasing number of articles are appearing in mainstream (as well as alternative) publications exploring the psychological and physiological effects of “conscious breathing.”

It is our goal to keep our students and clients up-to-date on the latest research. We will review published research as it becomes available, and alert our friends to articles of particular interest in breathwork. We will also publish excerpts from Kathleen’s new book, scheduled to be released in 2008.

Keep an eye on this page for the latest developments in the field of breathwork.
